In much the same way the sound of the first cuckoo heralds the start of spring, the first investment in a Rocket Internet startup signals the end of the holiday season. That startup is online payment service and Stripe clone Paymill. More intriguing is the angel investment in the Bitcoin virtual currency exchange BitPay. At the same time, Codeship has joined Seedcamp with its service to help software developers. Meanwhile, Seedcamp’s Greek equivalent Openfund has closed a €10 million fund and announced two major fundings. And the Plug and Play accelerator is looking for applicants in Spain. Paymill has collected €10 million ($13 million) from regular Rocket investor Holtzbrinck Ventures and, for the first time, Copenhagen-based VC firm Sunstone Capital.
