Hackers Break Into Web Host Linode, Steal $228K in Bitcoins from Customers Tweet More than $228,000 worth of Bitcoins were stolen after hackers breached cloud services provider Linode, according to a report by Ars Technica on Thursday. Hackers exploited a vulnerability that gave them access to eight victims’ digital wallets, where the private keys for spending received transactions are stored. Bitcoins are a cryptographically secure currency that operates without ties to a central authority, government or otherwise. Linode confirmed that a hacker targeted Bitcoin wallets stored on its servers after compromising eight customers Linode Manager accounts.
