Having said that, I’ve always thought that the layout of the Postal Service – whether it’s a small storefront facility on Main Street U.S.A. or a massive distribution facility with hundreds of employees in a city – was somewhat ominous. It’s not hard, if you’re already inclined not to trust your government, to see those little slices of the Federal government in every place there’s a cluster of American citizens, however large or small, as a potential facilitator of systemic evil, whether a currency devaluation (“Bring your dollars to the local Post Office where a Treasury official will either replace them with New Dollars or stamp a few more zeroes on them…”) or, say, a makeshift military headquarters in an “emergency”. I just sense a sort of ‘Trojan Horse’ quality to their ubiquity.
