Thailand verbiedt Bitcoin

De centrale bank van Thailand heeft besloten dat de handel in, en het gebruik van de virtuele valuta Bitcoin illegaal is. Het Thaise wisselkantoor Bitcoin Co. De organisatie laat weten dat het de afgelopen maanden contact heeft gezocht met de centrale bank van Thailand, om uit te zoeken welke vergunningen er nodig waren voor het verhandelen van de virtuele valuta. Het wisselkantoor wilde naar eigen zeggen vergunningen aanvragen bij diverse Thaise overheidsinstellingen, om op legale wijze te kunnen opereren. Aanvankelijk oordeelde de Thaise centrale bank dat Bitcoin geen munteenheid is, maar de instantie nodigde het bedrijf later uit voor een vergadering om uit te leggen wat de virtuele valuta precies inhoudt en hoe Bitcoin Co.
