Pieter Wuille (sipa) is a 27 year old Belgian who discovered Bitcoin while studying for his PhD . Alongside his studies, he became involved with Bitcoin by trying to get the reference client to export and import private keys. After gradually getting more involved he was eventually developing the Satoshi client full time and has been instrumental in refactoring and cleaning up the source code, key import/export, wallet encryption, compressed public keys, BIP 30, blockchain download speedups and general bugfixing. Currently he is working on deterministic wallets and IPv6 support. Before the adoption of BIP 16 , he was instrumental in perfecting the standard and working out several kinks during its development stage.
