I don’t think a comparison of the monopoly of a monetary system to toothpaste is reasonable or fair. Especially since the use of credit cards, debit cards and gift cards (alternate monetary systems) isn’t banned. I have used all three in the land of the free, Canada. I have two gift cards from American Express right now, one worth $20, one worth $18, both of which I can use at “some” places. Nor have I seen in your article any indication that the government of Canada is going to start banning any of them. Ban them? They barely regulate them. If Bitcoin is an example of a free market system of currency, fraud, inflation, poor acceptance, well, you can keep it. There are sometimes advantages to government monopolies. Such as confidence in the monetary system. BTW, at the risk of sounding like a jerk, the “Royal Canadian Mint” is the name, it is a “crown corporation”, a corpo...
