I’m not really shy about using method_missing but I think it does come with a few caveats (I can think of 3): 1) There is a worry that your code will break if your ghost method’s name is already defined as another method. For example, if you have an app for dealing with car stereos and one of the ghost methods you call is for the “display”. Since there’s already a method called display defined in Object then method_missing wont be called as expected and, in this case, you’ll simply get a nil value. To avoid this, just make sure you put some thought into your ghost method names. 2) It’s slower. Calling a real, defined method will always be faster than using a ghost method simply because of the extra work involved when searching up the Object Model for a defined method.
