Setup Ruby on Rails on OSX

First things first, you need a C compiler such as GCC or clang/LLVM. The easiest way to do this is to download XCode from the mac app store. The next step is to install homebrew . This is the package manager that you will use to download libraries and other tools that you will need. Now you need ruby. I have found that the best way to install ruby is with RVM . Once you have downloaded RVM, you can just run rvm install 1.9.2 rvm use 1.9.2 This will download ruby 1.9.2 and then set it as the ruby to be used in the current session. If you want to set 1.9.2 as the default you type: rvm --default use 1.9.2 Now you have ruby installed. The next step is to install rails.
