I have some experience with point of sale systems and interact with salespeople frequently. There was a fairly steady trend in favour of cashless society up until about 5-6 years ago, but it seemed to reach a bottom around that time, and more recently I find a growing percentage of customers want to pay cash. And it's not true that the majority of those are elderly. In fact, I find more millennials are opting for cash . Recent estimates have about 20% paying cash versus some form of plastic. It's interesting too how many of these people are alert to current affairs, using terms like 'bankster' and 'fiat' and 'reserve currency.' I had a good conversation this winter with a young man and his brother about fractional reserve banking.
